16th Annual Families Reading Together

Each year one picture book is chosen for all preschool through first grade children to read with their families. This year’s book is “What a Treasure!,” written by Jane Hillenbrand and illustrated by Will Hillenbrand. Celebrate this special book throughout the month of November!

Reading together is the single most important way to help young children get ready to read. It helps children develop an interest in reading, as well as increases their vocabulary and general knowledge. Children who enjoy being read to are more likely to want to read on their own.

Follow-up Activities:

  • Take time to look at the illustrations. Count how many animals Mole was able to help.
  • When outside, look for twigs, flowers or seeds. What animals would consider them treasures and why?
  • Talk about the qualities that make a good friend.
